As of April 1, 2018, Mr. Jean-Eric Paquet will replace Mr. Robert-Jan Smits as Director-General of the European Commission’s DG Research and Innovation.
This Commission department is responsible for EU policy on research, science and innovation, with a view to help create growth and jobs and tackle our biggest societal challenges.
In addition, Ms. Signe Ratso will replace Mr. Jack Metthey as Deputy Director-General of the Commission’s DG Research and Innovation. The European Commission has announced a number of other appointments of top management in key strategic areas ranging from climate action, research, education, youth and culture via social affairs. These appointments will significantly raise the number of women in the positions of Directors-General and Deputy Directors-General from just 11% in November 2014 to 36%. The Commission targets a 40% female-to-male ratio in these upper level positions by 31 October 2019.
